ARA (Air Risk Assessment)

ARA (Air Risk Assessment)
Air Risk Assessment is the process of collecting air samples to detect microorganisms present indoor using the BIOTEST RCS High Flow air sampler. This air sampler uses centrifugal impaction to maximise collection rates down to sub-micron sizes.

The Biotest air sampler draws in air at 100 litres per minute through a rotor and collects them on special agar strips. The agar strips are then incubated in the laboratory to enable each viable organism to grow and divide, thus forming colonies, which are then counted.

Under most conditions, the use of a general purpose agar that will grow all common microorganisms is the most useful. This will allow the quantification of the number of microorganisms but not necessarily the typing of them. A range of specialist agars are available for different microorganisms.

Initial Hygiene Services provides air risk assessment to help evaluate the indoor air at your premise. Please contact us if you would like us to help you evaluate the microbial activity in your indoor air.

For ways to improve your indoor air quality, please see the section on Initial Air Steriliser.
